the chicory fairy

by the white cart-road
dusty and dry
look ! there is chicory
blue as the sky!

on where the foot path
goes through the corn
see her bright flowers
each one new born

THE CHEST NUT FAIRY

chestnuts sweet chestnuts

to pick up and eat

or keep untill winter

when hot they're a treat !

like hedge hogs thier shells

are prickly outside

but silky within

where the little nuts hide

THE SWEET PEA FAIRY

here are sweetest colour

fragrance very sweet

here are silky pods of pea's

not for us to eat

here's a fairy sister

trying on with care

such a grand new bonnet

for the baby there

THE BLACKTHORN FAIRY

see even now in hedge

and thicket tangled

one brave and cheering sight

the leafless branches

of the blackthorn

spangled

with starry blossoms white
